[Music]
00:22
welcome to leadership talk the official
00:24
waymaker podcast i’m your host craig
00:26
hyneman and with me as usual is
00:28
stuart leo founder of waymaker how are
00:31
you mate
00:31
um fabulous actually it’s it’s great
00:34
it’s good to be
00:36
what are we episode four four yep
00:39
we’re recording this just after easter
00:41
yeah um
00:42
just after the easter break so i trust
00:44
that you’ve had a good one
00:46
mate i had a fantastic easter break
00:48
there was
00:49
clearly downtime and relaxation and
00:52
family
00:53
and services and
00:56
all the things you want to do at easter
00:59
um to relax so it was it was wonderful
01:03
well i’m impressed that you got to relax
01:05
because things are pretty crazy
01:06
at the moment from from a waymaker’s
01:08
perspective right
01:09
yeah there’s lots of exciting news
01:11
that’s happening in the world of
01:12
waymaker
01:12
lots and lots of exciting news and i
01:14
mean it’s it’s probably good to stop and
01:16
pause and
01:16
you know people are signing up people
01:19
are
01:20
taking their first diagnostics and
01:22
revealing growth
01:24
opportunities and building their first
01:27
strategic plans so we’re getting
01:28
lots and lots and lots of feedback in at
01:30
the moment like my
01:31
like i i literally just finished a team
01:35
exact team meeting here with the
01:36
waymaker crew and
01:38
our heads are exploding with feedback um
01:40
which is super exciting
01:42
um there’s some things we’re doing
01:44
really well there’s some things we’re
01:45
going we’re going to make that better
01:46
there’s some things we’re going oh that
01:47
would be really cool to have
01:49
so you know we’re we’re like everybody
01:53
else out there um
01:55
adapting and um growing with
01:58
with market feedback customer feedback
02:00
and so if you’re listening
02:01
um which i know many users are because
02:04
you’ve told me that
02:05
i just want to say thanks thanks for
02:08
thanks for giving us your feedback
02:10
thanks for reaching out to me on
02:11
linkedin or um
02:13
on facebook or where or email if you’ve
02:16
known me
02:16
um uh you know continue to give us
02:19
feedback
02:20
and um we’re listening and we can’t wait
02:23
to
02:24
make it better because that’s awesome
02:28
yeah because business this is what we do
02:32
hey we have to we actually have to do an
02:34
episode on how to
02:35
um take onboard constructive feedback
02:38
well
02:38
i think that would actually be a it’s
02:41
interesting conversation that would be a
02:43
good conversation we should maybe get
02:45
um one of our partners or friends out
02:48
there in industry to join us on that one
02:50
but um certainly personally when you’re
02:52
taking on feedback
02:54
i think i’ve grown in that space
02:57
i tend to throw less things and try and
03:01
[Laughter]
03:03
self-justified no no no um it’s it’s
03:05
really
03:06
uh yeah there’s that great phrase data
03:09
is your friend
03:10
um and uh any feedback is good
03:14
um so yeah we’re living in the data
03:16
right now which is where we’re meant to
03:17
be
03:18
good well things haven’t slowed down
03:21
stew
03:22
and and the purpose of this podcast is
03:24
to announce
03:25
uh one of our new initiatives through
03:27
waymaker and that is the waymaker
03:29
academy
03:30
exciting news waymaker academy uh
03:33
we this is actually one of the
03:36
big core pillars of waymaker and that is
03:39
um how do you learn grow
03:43
access content to help your team or help
03:44
yourself and sway maker academy is that
03:47
place we’re calling it bite size
03:48
brilliance
03:49
and that is exactly what it is short
03:52
courses to help leaders and coaches
03:54
build their skills on topics that
03:57
relates to everything you do in waymaker
03:59
so super excited waymaker academy is
04:01
open
04:02
is live and hey welcome let’s sign up
04:05
how do i access it how much you ask
04:09
um yeah it’s a well um if you’re a user
04:13
whether you’re in your free trial
04:15
or whether you’re paid up and using
04:17
waymaker it’s
04:18
uh it’s free um right so all you got to
04:21
do
04:23
in waymaker top right hand you see your
04:25
little profile if you’re on the desktop
04:28
top left hand i think if it’s on your
04:30
mobile device
04:32
you’ll see your profile so wherever
04:34
you’ve got your picture
04:35
click on that and the little drop down
04:37
will appear and you just click waymaker
04:39
academy
04:40
and that that signs you straight into
04:42
waymaker academy
04:44
and you’ll see the first few courses
04:47
available for free um and they’re things
04:50
like
04:50
um onboarding for your team things like
04:53
how to answer
04:54
question one vision or um
04:57
how to build customer experience how to
04:59
set up a problem
05:00
all the things you need to go deep into
05:03
waymaker
05:04
and so when you when you go oh how could
05:06
i do that
05:07
jump into waymaker academy you’ll start
05:09
to see how
05:11
it works and use it what’s super
05:14
exciting though
05:15
is you know we built waymaker for
05:19
two groups of people of course
05:22
the the organizational leader in their
05:24
teams
05:25
but um also the the business coach
05:29
the the person out there that’s actually
05:31
helping implem or helping facilitate
05:34
guide and then and implement teams into
05:37
better strategic planning
05:38
and so part of waymaker academy going
05:42
live
05:42
is the waymaker advisor certification
05:46
going live and we’re really excited
05:49
about that
05:50
all right do you want to explain that
05:52
one briefly just the way my way make a
05:54
certification
05:55
process yeah so um uh
05:59
you can coach and consult on a waymaker
06:02
the platform
06:03
so um you know and for all those coaches
06:06
and consultants that we’ve been talking
06:08
to over the last couple of weeks
06:09
um uh thank you
06:12
for your for your interest in your
06:13
inquiries you can now jump in
06:15
and um get the course we’ve built a
06:18
course
06:19
that you can take online
06:22
it’s we would say take one to three days
06:25
to work through it
06:27
but within a couple of weeks you can you
06:30
can learn the concepts
06:31
you can go deep on waymakers experience
06:34
curve you can
06:35
get in and see examples you can you can
06:38
get templated
06:39
best practice guides on onboarding your
06:41
clients into waymaker
06:43
it’s it’s got everything and if you jump
06:45
onto
06:47
io go to the partner section there
06:51
so not in the app just on our website
06:53
and
06:54
click on waymaker advisor certification
06:58
and and that is the overview of the
07:01
course and
07:02
that’s a paid course um naturally
07:05
that is about building a practice um
07:09
on waymaker and going out and being a
07:12
waymaker
07:13
it’s we certify you you become a partner
07:17
of waymaker you get access to certain
07:19
content
07:20
that regular business users don’t have
07:22
access to
07:23
and we know that you know waymaker and
07:26
we know that you can then on sell that
07:28
and add advisory services to that so
07:31
that’s
07:32
it’s one of the best ways to really
07:35
um get to know the platform and take it
07:37
to your clients
07:39
great so we’re getting certified in the
07:41
tools that we need and the framework
07:43
that we’re going to use
07:44
to on sell that as a as a coach or
07:47
consultant
07:48
trainer for uh businesses yes
07:51
yeah yeah yeah that’s that’s it so the
07:55
um the simplicity here is um
07:58
when we talk to coaches and consultants
08:01
they’re looking
08:02
for well tell us if you’re not but what
08:05
we understand so far
08:07
is that what they’re really looking for
08:09
is a platform
08:10
that brings data to the table to show
08:13
where the gaps are
08:15
that’s what our diagnostic does how to
08:18
build the strategic plan and the
08:20
performance plan
08:21
digitally which is what the roadmap does
08:24
and then how to have really clear roi
08:27
and reporting
08:28
and tracking on what gets done okay well
08:30
that’s that’s what the okr module’s
08:32
doing
08:33
so as a coach or a consultant you’ve
08:36
you’ve got
08:37
visibility of data into where the gaps
08:39
are in the organization
08:40
what the what the leaders have said
08:42
let’s go ahead and work on
08:44
um and how you can then help implement
08:46
and do that so
08:47
so as a as a coach or consultant we’ll
08:49
get some on this podcast over the coming
08:51
weeks
08:53
you do a couple of things one you help
08:57
organizations understand the gaps
09:00
so understand the outputs of the
09:03
diagnostic
09:05
and that’s going to be across many areas
09:07
in fact we should do a deep dive into
09:08
this in coming weeks but it will be
09:10
across
09:11
the plain activities so at the top level
09:15
simple activities what what could we do
09:17
better okay that’s one area
09:20
underneath that though because we’ve got
09:22
layers of activities across the
09:24
diagnostic you’re going to see patterns
09:25
and trends emerging
09:27
and it’s going to in fact most users get
09:29
this as they start moving from vision to
09:31
market to strategy they’re quickly going
09:33
i see a theme here
09:36
and and that pattern or trend is really
09:38
visible in the data so you can start to
09:41
go a little bit deeper and go look there
09:43
seems to be some consistent behavior
09:46
going on okay now we’re talking about
09:49
behavioural shift and
09:50
cultural change and then one of the
09:53
other really cool things we do
09:56
is we identify the gaps between skills
09:58
and systems in the diagnostic which
09:59
we’ve talked about before
10:01
so that quickly allows a a coach to
10:05
help facilitate out priorities and
10:08
close those gaps but actually sitting
10:11
deeper in the diagnostic is what we call
10:14
the growth mindset which is
10:17
where we get into the well the mind
10:21
and and it’s not the mind of the
10:22
individual it’s the collective mind of
10:23
the organization and
10:25
and so there’s there’s up to 16
10:29
variations of that growth mindset that
10:31
drop out and
10:32
as every coach knows the greatest level
10:35
of change
10:35
comes not from changing
10:39
what you do but how you think and
10:43
as a coach understanding and reading
10:46
the diagnostic data around growth
10:48
mindsets help you helps you create
10:50
transformational shift in the mindset
10:52
of leaders and users in the organization
10:55
and that’s powerful
10:56
so we really set up a coach to go deep
11:00
um and and create change
11:03
great so waymaker academy
11:06
is not just uh training
11:09
um and certification for coaches and
11:11
consultants but it’s also
11:13
just a library of a wealth of free
11:16
education that’s right um four
11:19
businesses that sign up to waymaker
11:21
yeah and so expanding ever expanding
11:24
library
11:25
great education is knowledge knowledge
11:27
is power
11:28
it’s etc i think you’re trying to do a
11:31
really good job of bringing me back on
11:33
topic
11:33
trying to trying to segue you back to
11:35
that that’s right
11:38
yeah we had this um you know we wouldn’t
11:41
be a waymaker podcast if we didn’t look
11:43
at history or if we didn’t look at
11:45
something in the marketplace and go hey
11:48
how do we learn from this
11:49
um so uh
11:52
all right i’m ready yeah i’m ready so
11:56
i’m ready to here i mean one of the the
11:59
big
12:00
idea here is waymaker academy is not
12:03
just bite-sized brilliance but
12:05
it’s it’s ridiculously fast
12:08
as you bring your team on um whether
12:11
they be in the same
12:13
room same city same country continent or
12:16
culture
12:17
as you’re in you can distribute
12:20
that content anywhere and
12:23
as we were thinking through this podcast
12:25
we thought what’s the take out i mean we
12:27
yeah we want to give waymaker academy a
12:29
plug and we want to let people know
12:30
about what we’re doing but
12:32
what do i take away from this you know
12:34
what’s my learning
12:35
as a as a business leader or a coach
12:38
and if we go back and look at
12:42
the greatest moment of change
12:46
around content distribution
12:49
stay with me the greatest moment of
12:51
change around content distribution
12:53
we find ourselves in the mid to late
12:56
1400s
12:57
when um yeah johannes gutenberg
13:01
invented the printing press and
13:05
you’re like how does that help me well
13:08
there’s a really
13:09
cool business lesson in in the gutenberg
13:12
printing press
13:13
um which i think we should bring out
13:17
all right i was waiting for a resounding
13:19
yes hey let’s go oh yes oh yeah
13:22
i could think of several but i’m
13:24
interested to hear the one that you want
13:25
to um
13:27
bring to the side what do you think um
13:29
what do you think
13:30
part of the several what do you think
13:33
well one of them would be
13:34
uh that until the printing press the
13:36
distribution of information
13:38
was limited to the ability for someone
13:41
to
13:41
you know hand write or copy um content
13:45
the the minute that the printing press
13:47
came out uh the dissemination of
13:49
information was
13:50
was much faster nowhere near as quickly
13:53
as the internet
13:54
but obviously a lot faster than they had
13:55
up until that point yeah
13:57
you’re right people were not people
14:00
typically monks
14:01
in in um monk houses seminaries what’s a
14:05
that’s that’s
14:07
[Laughter]
14:09
all my credibility’s just going straight
14:11
out the window yeah sorry no disrespect
14:13
to
14:13
that yeah uh
14:17
typically um a group of people
14:21
monks were scribing
14:24
and transcribing um source documents
14:27
that the most important source documents
14:28
of the day um
14:30
government stuff or really mostly church
14:33
things and
14:34
at that time it would have been the
14:36
christian bible
14:37
and and and you know we actually
14:41
have in history a few moments in time
14:44
that
14:45
in the west gutenberg landed on the
14:48
printing press and he
14:49
really landed the printing press moment
14:51
but we see we saw
14:52
see also in the 1100s 1200s
14:56
chinese inventors playing with lettering
14:59
and
15:00
wording and and i think it was just
15:02
gutenberg that probably
15:03
got there sooner but the world was
15:06
moving towards how can we take
15:08
things that were written and and
15:10
transcribed and
15:12
get them into another way that the world
15:15
was searching to improve communication
15:18
and and so that was gutenberg um he’d be
15:21
loaded now wouldn’t he
15:22
gutenberg well if he was still alive
15:28
yes peyton has probably expired um and
15:31
uh and maybe his copyright invention um
15:35
has expired but did you know gutenberg
15:38
died
15:38
a an indebted penniless
15:42
inventor i did not know that that i did
15:45
not know that
15:46
before doing some research around this
15:48
this story okay
15:50
and i thought man like he was the jeff
15:52
bezos
15:53
of his day wasn’t he he’s he was the
15:56
rupert murdoch
15:57
of the 1400s how
16:00
how could he die in such a penniless
16:03
state and
16:05
and the business lesson in all of this
16:08
um so here’s the big idea around
16:12
content is that
16:16
content is only as powerful
16:22
as its distribution method enables it to
16:24
be
16:27
so content and distribution go hand in
16:30
hand
16:30
distribution unlocks the power of
16:33
content as
16:34
and so what did gutenberg do the first
16:36
thing he actually printed
16:38
was um the the christian bible he he
16:41
that’s the famous story he right he he
16:44
the first thing
16:45
gutenberg printed was a bible typically
16:47
a um
16:48
something that took years um two or
16:51
three years to rewrite
16:53
by a group of expert monks and and and
16:56
therefore
16:57
you know written content and scriptures
17:00
of the day
17:01
was super super important um right
17:04
and and so he printed that and and it
17:07
and it took him
17:08
a little bit of time but he was actually
17:11
able to do his first print run
17:13
of the bible in latin and it took him
17:16
three years but he printed 200
17:18
copies now that is exponentially faster
17:20
than a group of monks trying to do hand
17:21
copied manuscripts
17:24
the problem was though he didn’t have
17:25
distribution
17:27
and and so he actually
17:30
um whilst he invented the technology he
17:33
wasn’t able to do anything with the
17:35
product that it was creating i feel
17:37
perhaps we shouldn’t call the christian
17:38
bible a product but it was a thing that
17:41
was getting
17:42
distributed and it wasn’t until
17:45
at the time the the great
17:48
distribution people of the mediterranean
17:52
and europe
17:53
were the merchants of venice i mean we
17:56
all know shakespeare’s play
17:57
merchant of venice and so it wasn’t
18:00
until
18:01
other german inventors took gutenberg’s
18:03
technology
18:04
and started to um produce
18:08
content that actually could go into the
18:10
ships
18:11
that were leaving venice and the very
18:14
first
18:14
news organizations were started to
18:17
emerge and the very
18:19
first distribution network started to
18:20
emerge and suddenly they could print
18:23
something
18:24
they could sell it to a merchant captain
18:27
who would buy it
18:28
and then take it out and sell it to
18:30
people across the distribution networks
18:32
and
18:33
and so this idea of of product and
18:36
distribution
18:37
really came into play and and so
18:40
as the story goes on the the the first
18:44
thing gutenberg printed was
18:46
was the christian bible and it was 50 60
18:49
70 years later
18:51
that the the huge reformation happened
18:54
across western europe
18:56
or across europe at the time when martin
18:58
luther nailed his
19:01
95 thesis 95 thesis yep this is to
19:04
a a door of a german church
19:08
and arguing that because the regular man
19:12
had been able to read and understand
19:14
that um actually that was different from
19:17
what was being done
19:19
through the institutional church and
19:21
that that changed the face of europe
19:23
the protestant reformation emerged and
19:26
and something
19:27
really you’re blaming you’re blaming
19:29
gutenberg for this no i know not at all
19:32
it was i think luther the blaming that’s
19:34
not the right word yeah blame is not the
19:36
right word in fact
19:37
maybe that was a really good thing
19:41
but the point here was that what used to
19:43
take years and years and years
19:46
um suddenly now was speeding up
19:50
luther took that content he did that
19:53
famous nailing of the theses
19:56
and within hours i think something like
19:58
17 hours
20:00
i don’t know how it was hours but within
20:02
hours
20:04
printers because this is the early 1500s
20:07
now
20:08
so 60 something years later printers
20:10
were
20:11
replicating that in london and and
20:14
across europe
20:15
and so societal change
20:18
was unlocked because there was both
20:22
the content created but also the
20:23
distribution networks
20:25
to get it out there and i think you know
20:28
when i when i think about
20:30
companies we’ve worked with and clients
20:32
of waymaker
20:34
and then i think about waymaker academy
20:36
we live in this
20:37
amazing time where you and i
20:41
can record a podcast drop
20:44
a video and audio and literally within
20:48
minutes to an hour or two that’s
20:51
out there available to anybody in the
20:53
world
20:54
and whilst that’s amazing
20:58
value comes from content
21:01
plus distribution and that’s so we’ve
21:04
got the new distribution method
21:07
from mr tim berners-lee who invented the
21:09
interwebs
21:10
yes and and now however many years later
21:13
uh content is being created that we want
21:16
to disseminate
21:17
very quickly across borders
21:20
across and yeah and i think the point
21:24
i’m trying to make here
21:25
maybe badly um is that we keep repeating
21:28
the same mistakes
21:29
right because distribution methods
21:32
change so if you’re if you’re an
21:34
organizational leader thinking about
21:35
this
21:36
i want you to be thinking about well how
21:38
what is my product
21:40
is it information is it a widget is it
21:42
whatever
21:44
how am i distributing it and
21:47
and and what’s the relationship through
21:50
that distribution
21:50
because let’s think about ebooks and
21:54
rich content um i think it was 2007 when
21:57
steve jobs
21:59
said he’s and he’s one more thing he’s
22:01
an iphone and suddenly e-book started to
22:03
gather steam
22:04
the ipad unlocked that a little bit more
22:08
but it took jeff bezos with amazon.com
22:12
to reinvent book distribution
22:16
yeah and then to add a kindle into that
22:19
to reinvent digital book distribution
22:22
and until then
22:23
the book world was just in free fall and
22:26
and we’ve seen spotify
22:27
do that with audio we’ve seen
22:30
apple focus heavily on their
22:34
distribution network effectively iphones
22:37
ipads
22:37
computers and then in the last couple of
22:40
years
22:41
introduce content to distribute and you
22:44
hear tim cook talking about
22:46
apple becoming a server
22:49
services company effectively a content
22:51
company
22:53
you know they out almost 100
22:54
million dollars for tom hanks
22:57
uh movie which i wish i could remember
22:59
the title of now because i watched
23:01
greyhound
23:02
greyhound thank you very much um how
23:04
good was that that was a fantastic watch
23:06
and enjoyed it so what’s apple doing
23:08
buying movies
23:09
well apple is buying movies to push out
23:13
through its distribution network and
23:17
and so the the big idea here
23:20
is the relationship between content and
23:22
distribution and that relationship
23:24
hasn’t changed since gutenberg invented
23:27
the printing press
23:29
if apple just invented the iphone
23:32
they’d probably eventually die penniless
23:35
i’m not going to say they’re going to
23:36
die panelists in the short term
23:38
but but they’ve been constantly building
23:41
the distribution network alongside
23:43
the content and and so that’s the big
23:46
idea and when you get that right
23:48
um hey which no no um
23:52
nothing to hide here that’s what we’re
23:53
trying to do with waymaker we’re trying
23:55
to create great content
23:57
and get it out to people as quickly as
23:58
possible to effect change in
24:00
in business and when when you do that
24:03
and when we do that
24:04
then we leverage that magic relationship
24:08
between content distribution
24:09
content and distribution and waymaker
24:11
academy
24:12
is our distribution method well
24:16
waymaker is our academy is our
24:18
distribution method for the methodology
24:20
and the learning of how to use waymaker
24:21
so there you go
24:22
so we thought we would talk today about
24:24
that that amazing principle between
24:27
content and distribution because um the
24:30
more you dig into it
24:32
the more interesting it gets and i think
24:36
there wouldn’t be an organization on
24:37
earth that couldn’t improve their
24:39
relationship between
24:40
product and distribution content and
24:42
distribution
24:44
all right before we wrap it up then uh
24:46
stu what sort of
24:47
courses can someone
24:51
sign up for or can someone take on the
24:53
waymaker academy
24:54
um give me an example well the best
24:58
example is waymaker advise certification
25:00
easy peasy
25:04
other types of courses in in there is
25:06
some
25:07
leadership and management foundations so
25:10
what does it mean to lead versus manage
25:13
we might do a podcast
25:14
on this um we’ve got some
25:17
really useful content in that and
25:19
helping emerging leaders
25:21
and really long-term leaders as well
25:23
understand
25:24
the things they do that relate to
25:26
management things that relate to leaders
25:28
so
25:29
if if uh if you’re an organization
25:31
wanting to build leadership great
25:33
get some of your guys through that
25:35
that’s free by the way
25:38
what else can you see within waymaker
25:41
we’re always talking about the seven
25:43
questions question one what is vision is
25:44
it driven by
25:45
purpose um what’s holding us back from
25:47
getting there well
25:49
okay it’s easy to answer that if you
25:51
just work through the diagnostic but
25:52
what if what if you want to attack
25:54
vision
25:54
what if you think we don’t really have
25:56
clarity of vision we want to
25:58
we want to unpack that well
26:02
um you can jump in and and take our
26:05
bite-sized bri course on that
26:08
which will help you understand the
26:11
vision canvas
26:12
work through the vision clarity
26:13
statements and ultimately
26:15
articulate vision and purpose and
26:18
um and not just kind of articulate it
26:21
but make it yours
26:22
and simplify it
26:26
we and we do that for all the questions
26:28
so
26:29
um want to delve deeper into market what
26:32
is our market who’s our ideal customer
26:35
what do they see as as what they
26:38
value and how do we build our
26:39
perceptions around that well how do you
26:41
really go deep on that
26:43
and so waymaker academy has courses
26:46
around vision
26:47
market strategy business model
26:50
sales marketing service and
26:54
our early release of courses is all
26:57
revolving around
26:58
um going deeper in answering those
27:00
questions so
27:02
jump in take them tell us what you think
27:05
and if you want stuff in there tell us
27:08
we’re having some really interesting
27:09
conversations at the moment around
27:11
different types of content to support
27:12
people in waymaker
27:14
and if there’s something of value we’ll
27:16
get in there for you
27:18
great and you talk about bite size
27:20
brilliance uh so these courses are not
27:22
hours and hours and hours
27:23
weeks and weeks no um
27:26
you know if we publish a time it’s
27:28
always going to be what we call a
27:30
nominal time something that we think
27:31
is is the worst case scenario so if we
27:34
say it’s an hour you’ll probably do it
27:36
within
27:36
15 to 30 minutes but if you want to do
27:39
it deeply and explore
27:41
maybe you’ll take 30 minutes to an hour
27:43
so
27:44
these are things that you might say i
27:46
really want to brush up on skills
27:48
um in leadership and management you
27:51
might say
27:52
gosh this quarter i’m i’m really wanting
27:55
to go deep
27:56
on customer experience and as part of
27:58
your key results
28:00
in in waymaker you might actually say
28:02
i’m going to complete
28:03
this course in this course and or i’m
28:06
going to take my team through
28:07
x-course and um and
28:10
and so those sorts of things you can use
28:13
you can take them in
28:15
30 one hour or you might then take the
28:17
content out of it
28:19
and do some use that for some
28:21
facilitation and work
28:23
with your team that’s awesome so
28:26
listeners need to first of all sign up
28:28
for waymaker
28:30
at waynemaker.io sign up for a free
28:32
trial
28:33
um navigate to your uh
28:36
profile uh and then follow the link to
28:38
waymaker academy
28:39
and that content that is there for free
28:42
and if you’re listening um and you’ve
28:45
already signed up to
28:46
waymaker.io please subscribe to our
28:48
podcast um because we’re gonna
28:50
talk a lot more about you know some of
28:52
the maybe some of the courses
28:54
that uh that are in there and unpack
28:56
those a little bit more get some
28:58
experts in to chat through those things
29:01
and um
29:02
generally we’re here to talk about how
29:04
to achieve more by doing less
29:05
so stu thank you so much
29:09
for uh for your time this week and we’re
29:12
looking forward what
29:13
are we going to talk about next week
29:15
well that’s exciting
29:16
um all right give me a give me a little
29:19
yeah so i i
29:20
probably briefly touched on it today but
29:22
we’re gonna
29:23
we’re gonna go into the diagnostic and
29:26
talk about the
29:27
transformation iceberg now that is the
29:31
um it’s the detail and the
29:35
ability to shift gears and achieve
29:40
significant change so we talk about
29:43
four gears that if you drive with these
29:46
four gears
29:48
nice analogy to talk there
29:51
that you can create the greatest amount
29:52
of shift so i’m going to go deep in that
29:54
and start to i’ll take that and that’s
29:56
that’s about going deep in the
29:58
diagnostics so
29:59
um if you want to know how to
30:02
unlock and and use those four gears um
30:05
yeah subscribe join us just listen to
30:08
the next one
30:09
join us next week leadership talk how to
30:11
achieve more by doing less
30:29
you

Education is knowledge …. but education with distribution is transformation
As always we take a deep dive into what the business principles are relevant and how you can apply them today.
The big idea of this episode: “Education is knowledge …. but education with distribution is transformation.”
We go back in time and look at why the man who invented the modern book died a pauper.
Gutenberg is hero who died thinking his invention was worthless.
He had invented the technology to put information in the hands of the everyday person. (Sound familar?)
Yet, he could not work out how to effectively monetise the technology to make it sustainable.
What was the change?
The change was when other printers took the technology to Venice in Italy.
Venice was the trading crossroads of the modern merchant world.
The merchants then used the ships as distribution to create news networks, publishing houses and create new jobs on a sustainable platform.
Education is knowledge …. but education with distribution is transformation.
Subscribe and listen as we introduce Waymaker Academy with some bit sized brilliance… or at least bit sized interesting story on how you can learn the lessons of innovation.
We explore how the mistakes of Gutenberg are still made to today and how people like Jeff Bezos from Amazon have been modern day Gutenbergs creating value through smarter distribution.

About Waymaker
Waymaker helps leaders find gaps across the whole of the business, then set clear plans across teams to accountably deliver.
We do this through Waymaker’s Experience Curve Diagnostic which guides users through identify what business activities need improvement.
Users can see specific functional activities and quickly identify gaps in clarity and maturity.
This is done across breadth and depth of the organization.
Waymaker shows an Experience Curve Diagnostic for vision, market, strategy, business model, marketing, sales, service and employee experience.
Data is sourced from all team members, revealing the true picture of insight.
These gaps can be turned into Roadmap goals.
Then, when goals are committed to a quarter, half or year, they are ‘In Progress’ OKRs.
All team members can see the strategic business goal and create their own goals aligning as needed.
Most importantly, teams can see dashboards and drill into what is going on to easily understand progress and what needs to happen next.
